Never needed a snow blower in Chicago. We lived in the southern suburbs. Didn't need one when we lived near Montreal either! However, I really needed one in Richmond, VA!

We lived just south of Cleveland for 6 years. Right in the middle of the snow belt. Never had a snow blower! I did wear out 3 snow shovels, but had abs of steel and no problem with weight control. Some days we would have to shovel the drive 5 times especially when the plows were running.

I have to have a blower here, it's mandatory if you don't want a heart attack LOL

itll be intersting to see the first winter here in town on a corner lot. We have two drives, one on each street. The last few years at my old place i had gotten "bad" about locking the old silver-ay-do in 4 hi and giving er hell till she's on the road haha i think i shoveled once last year, otherwise i just floored it out of the drive

We're on a hill and if I don't snow blow, I can leave the house no problem but getting back up is not happening LOL

haha good ol ohio flatland. where were at now the only thing stopping me will be however high the plows pile the snow in front of my drive

So im picking up a DL1000 Vstrom soon for a new daily mule. My commute is 50 miles of straight flat ohio roads. Im really thinking i might try going darkside on it when the current tire wears out. Im about to mount the 2nd tire on my BMW that about looks like a car tire now from being worn out in the middle haha
Sep 19, 2019, 10:05:21
Maritime
:
Not sure what you mean by Darkside but the DL1000 is on my short list of bikes to own someday so jealous.
Sep 19, 2019, 10:24:46
Hurco550
:
Darkside is what they call it when you mount a car tire on the back. Guys get booko miles out of them. I guess its pretty hot button topic with the square profile, but tons of guys have done it. The people that boo it are all ones that have never done it lol

And i should have said new to me, not actually new

Ha, gotcha. PIDJones here runs a car tire on his GL1800. and if I got a DL it would be the same deal
Sep 19, 2019, 11:15:50
Maritime
:
If you run freeway and straight roads a car tire is fine. You can have other bikes with round profiles for back twisties. Or carry a spare rear wheel for when you get to the fun stuff
Sep 19, 2019, 11:17:06
Hurco550
:
well considering i had to fight hard to scrub the chicken strips on the 705 on the back of the dr650, i dont think ill over corner a CT on a v strom. The tire is also cheaper than a MC tire, so if it sucks ill only be out less than $100

the video is a dl1000, but there is a video of a goldwing scraping pipes on the tail of the dragon on a car tire

When I was in Europe a lot of guys were running 15" car tires mostly VW. They would removed the center from a VW rim, dimple it for spokes and lace it to their hubs. Many of their bikes were daily transportation and they rode in all types of weather and all types of roads. I was a jaded American, so I never tried it but know they had pretty good success.

i have been reading about it pretty extensively and it is a very funny and polarizing topic. In fact you and Mike are the only "moderate" people so far. Otherwise it is the people who have done it and say its fine and people who havent done it who argue that its terrible. I cannot find a legit failure or accident caused by the tire anywhere online. In fact the ones marked "accident caused by car tire on motorcycle" are all troll videos posted to facebook by people using them. haha its several minutes of them riding with nothing bad happening at all

I need to contact PD! I found a derelict GL1000 in a salvage yard. I have not looked at it yet, but it may have the illusive rear passenger grab rail he was needing.

For some reason the grab rails go missing on a lot of the GL's

its funny how those little take offs end up being the rare peices down the road. Bradj said the same about the seat hoops on the titans. They all came with them but they also almost all got pitched. now they are rare
Sep 20, 2019, 10:13:25
Maritime
:
Yep, that's how it goes. another rare part is the fork caps. If you strip one they are rare as hen's teeth to get new ones. I had to hunt for weeks and got lucky Tim had a guy he knew who had spares and saved me

Ten years ago a friend of mine flipped a Honda V65. He had a box of extra parts for it but the new owner didn't want them. I ended up with the box. There was an aluminum grab rail/sissy bar thing in the box and I put it on EBay with a $1.00 starting bid/no reserve. When the auction ended it sold for $250! I had no idea this part had become one of the rare parts for V65s!
